Insomnia

Difficulty in falling asleep at night is insomnia. Inability to have proper sleep at night ,according to ayurveda insomnia is known ‘anidra ‘ . It is due to imbalance of doshas  ( vata , pitta , kafa ) . These imbalance of doshas is due to sedentary lifestyle,  depression, stress,unschedule hours of work, lack of exercise, false eating habits . Lack of nirda leads to karshyata ( weak body) ,  balahani
( deability) , agyanta ( mental weakness ) , nausea ( feeling of vomiting ) , pulsation
 ( palpitations) , sweating , fearness of loosing , lack of concentration,  fatigue , high BP . Causes of insomnia are  mental stress , physical pain,  unfavorable climate and environment,  exertion,  depression,  stomach problem , constipation .
Ayurvedic view –
 ‘ Tarpak kafa ‘ nourish brain cells and give good sleep , imbalance of this ‘ tarpak kafa ‘ causes negative thoughts and leads to insomnia .
‘Sadhak Pitta’ in heart controls emotions,  desires , spirituality. Imbalance of this ‘ Sadhak Pitta’ causes fear , worries , anger , over work , over excitement and leads to insomnia.
‘ Pran Vata ‘ work for nervous system and it’s imbalance occurs due to itake of tea,coffe before going to bed , long gap between meals intake of cold and dry food , cabbage ,lattice, beans , peas , rice , smoked food .
Diet and lifestyle Advice –
* Eat salad with cream , yogurt , vegetable oil.  Have diet rich in nuts like pumpkin seeds, peanuts , sesame seeds , almonds , walnuts
* Use multi grain flour .
* Have fresh fruits , fibre fruits , avocados .
* Avoid caffeine drinks , alcohol , tea ,coffe.
* Avoid late night use of gadgets.
* Have a scheduled life style .
* Have body massage with sesame oil , followed by bath.
* Do yoga , meditation
* Panchkarma Therapies like shirodhara , shirobasti , nasyam are best recommended for insomnia.
Home Remedies:-
* 1 tsf honey , 1/2 tsf cinnamon powder , mix it in 1 cup of warm milk and drink it before going to bed .
* Take 1.5 gm of dried powder of mint leaves , 1 tsf of honey . Mix it in luke warm water and drink at bed time .
* Have sliced banana with a sprinkle of cinnamon regularly.
* Take 1 tsf of ashavgandha powder , brahmi powder in 2 cups water boil and reduce it yo 1 cup and drink it daily to reduce headache due to sleeplessness.
* 1 tsf coconut oil , 1 tsf honey , pinch of sea salt mix it all and consume daily.
* 1 tsf black seed oil mix it in luke warm water drink it daily .
* Have 8 ouns of cherry juice daily.
* 1 tsf of dried valirian root with water .
* 1 clove of garlic, 1/4 cup water , 1 cup milk boil it consume it daily .
* Have chamonile tea , green tea daily.

Black pepper is  used both as spice and medicine. Black pepper belongs to family of piperaceae  . It is a fruits of  black pepper plant . It act as wonder herb and spice it also adds flavor  to food .

1 :- When you go out with friends try to have your lunch or dinner at subway. The healthiest option out there . Take a veggie delite sub in brown bread and eating out won’t harm your diet and weight at all . Tell them not to put mayo in it though.

2 :- If you don’t have a say in the place of  eating then make your choices  sensibly . If you go to eat Chinese have rice rather than noodles . Order stir fried veggies instead of  Manchurian and control your proportions . Don’t take fried starters . Avoid those thick soups they are no good.

3 :- When going out just pick 2 fruits before sitting in the car and eat it on your way to the venue. When you are already a little filled before going out . Your somewhat filled stomach  helps your mind take the right decision

4 :-  If eating Indian , order tandoori chappati rather than butter naan or parantha . Take less gravy since it is the most fattening .

HAIR TYPES ACCORDING TO DOSHA AND PARKRITI . 

  VATA HAIR TYPE

  1. Vata hair break easily mostly dry , thin , rough , get tangled often.

PITTA HAIR TYPE. 

  1. Hair falls more quickly , grey light brown clour , false dietary habits ofen leads to aggravation of pitta dosha which leads to excessive hair fals.

  KAPHA  HAIR TYPE .

  • Kapha hairs are lustorous  , good in texture , floury , hairs grows quickly are generaly thick and strong .
  • An average scalp has 100,000 to 150,000 hairs . Normely shed are 50-100/day.
  • One should always keep hair healthy .
  • Use ayurvadic oils and shampoo for hairs .
  • Use Coconut oil for massage :- Coconut not only promotes hair growth but also conditions them. It has essential fats, minerals and proteins which reduce hair breakage and is also rich in potassium and iron.Use Onion juice :- Onion is a rich source of sulphur which helps in hair growth by increasing collagen production. Using its juice on the scalp can help in controlling hair fall. 

    Use Garlic :- Like onion, garlic too has high sulphur content. That’s why it is used in traditional hair regrowth medicines. Crush a few cloves of garlic. Add coconut oil to it and boil the mixture for a few minutes. Massage it on your scalp then leave it on for 30 minutes and then wash your hair.

     

    Use Henna :- It is mostly used as a natural hair colour or conditioner but henna has properties that can strengthen your hair from the root. Mix mustard oil with henna powder in a tin can. Massage your scalp with it on a regular basis. Dry henna powder with curd can also be used to protect hair fall.

DIETARY HABITS 

  • One should have flaxseeds, walnuts, salmon, soybeans as these have omega- 3 Fatty acids prevents hair fall, dandruff and itching dry skin.
  • One should have pumpkin, sunflower seeds, pork, chicken, lean beef, seafood like oysters and crabs. These all contain protein which prevents graying of hair.
  • One should have egg yolks, red meat, dark leafy vegetables, turkey, liver, dry fruits like raisins, beans, lentils, soybeans, liver, chickpeas, these all have vitamin A and c which prevents breaking of hair. One can also have carrots, sweet potatoes, papaya, pineapples, strawberries, broccoli etc.
  • One should use Bhringaraj, Amla, Ghritkumari as Ayurvedic herbs for hair problem.
  • Keep hair clean, do yoga and meditation.

In Ayurveda we different skin type according to person parkriti  (vata,pitta,kapha,)

  Ideal  Skin .

Person with healthy skin have lustrous ,soft ,oily ,thin ,smooth skin

   Vata Skin. 

Vata skin is dry , rough ,easily get dehydrated ,cool to touch  , delicate , thin and gets more  dry in dry windy weather , age faster .

     Pitta Skin. 

Pitta skin is Medium  , thick , sensitive , soft , warm to touch  , fair , less tolerant to heat  . Pitta skin often  gets moles , freckles ,  acne sun spot  , rashes quickly .

       Kapha Skin .    

Kapha skin is pale , thick  , oily , dull complexion , blackheads  , enlarged pores, age slower ,and is more prone to water retention and sunlight .

AKSHITARPAN
